International Conference on Universal Digital Library (ICUDL) is a major annual international conference organized as a forum for library, museum and IT professionals to exchange comprehensive views on the recent development and progress in digital library technology, to promote international cooperation in related fields, to advocate universal access to information, and to enhance the global impact of the Universal Digital Library Project.
Since 2005, ICUDL has successfully brought together leading researchers and developers involved in digital library research and practice, including computer science, electrical engineering, information science, information systems, librarian, archival science and practice, museum studies and practices, technology, education and humanities. The conference will focus on critical issues to make the Universal Digital Library (UDL) free-to-read, searchable and available to everyone over the Internet. The Million Book Project (MBP) is considered a first milestone towards building this digital library with one million books in various languages belonging to diversified cultures and civilizations. The annual workshop for the MBP will thus be held in conjunction with the conference.
ICUDL 2010 will take place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, P.R. China, 28th-30th October 2010. Hangzhou is one of the seven ancient capitals and the key scenic tourism and historical culture city in China. It once was applauded as ˇ°the most splendid and luxurious city in the worldˇ± by Marco Polo, the Italian traveler in the 13th century. The city locates close to China east coast (200km south to Shanghai) with convenient public transportation.
